Pediatrics cases : 1-Week-Old with Fever

 1-Week-Old with Fever
A 1-week-old infant with a normal physical
examination is found to have a rectal temperature
of 38.1°C. The baby was born at term, weighed
 and continues to feed well and wet six to eight diapers per day. The infant interacts appropriately and is easily consoled when crying.

Differential diagnosis includes
a. meningitis
b. self-limited viral illness
c. pneumonia
d. urinary tract infection
e. all of the above



Discution 
The correct answer is (e) . Febrile infants can have serious infection even with normal examinations and no evident source of fever.
Approximately 3% of these newborns have bacteremia.
